my gpu is listed as one that works with blender cycles rendering, yet it doesnt give me the option to choose opencl in the user preferences. my drivers are up to date, computer up to date, using windows 10, but no luck. any suggestions?
GCN1 cards are not supported iirc with cycles. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD_Radeon_Rx_200_series – r7 240 is a GCN 1 card.
