Compositing smoke sim in with character

Hi, I need may character to interact with the smoke sim in my scene, but I want to render each in different lighting. How can I get these two renders together so that I can see my character interact with the smoke?

You can put your different lightings, character and smoke on different layers.
Then, you have to render just layer of character and exclude layer of smoke lighting in character renderlayer.
For smoke renderlayer, you have to render smoke’s layer, exclude layer of character lighting and mask layer of character.

Then, you just have to combine these two renderlayers into node editor.
