I wish buying a laptop were as easy as making your own desktop, where one buys exactly and only what one wants. But laptops come in sometimes awkward combinations.
I am buying a laptop for, amongst other things, using blender. Here I have various combinations of features within my budget:
1- i7 7700HQ 16GB GTX 1060 4GB (way more than 1200€)
2- i5 6300HQ 32GB GTX 1060 6GB (1200€)
3- i7 6700HQ 16GB GTX 960 4GB (maybe less than 1000€)
Option number 2 is quite interesting, it’s a Medion and I don’t know if they are any good. My question is not a simple one: Is having more ram and a better gpu preferable over having an i7 over an i5 cpu for blender? I think it might but, is medion any good?
After all these days searching for laptops, I have finally settled for an unbranded cheap laptop with outstanding specs, and two years guarantee. An i7 6700hq 16GB ram and a gtx 1060 6gb for 1050€. Wheeee!
I know this thread is pretty useless for most people. But at least it has served me to divert some of my stress and anxiety caused by having to choose a laptop.
