Is it "Acceptable" to use both a normal map and a displacement map

I wanted to make some bricks in cycles when I realized that just applying an image texture of a normal map, color, and roughness didn’t look realistic. The plane was too flat. So I used the displacement map in combination with the 3 image textures. Is this acceptable or should I take out the normal map to get the most realistic render?
Thanks

show me ur node map, i suspect you did something wrong, as a normal map should be enough…

but to answer your question, in most cases no, you should not use both maps.

however there are exeptions.

a displacement map is most usually used for large shapes, such as sand, snow, landscape, etc. while a normal map is for smaller details. if you have a displacement map that does the same as the normal map, then no dont use both. but say you have a displacement map to get the big forms, then a normal map to get all the small details, then yes you can use both.

simply plug the normal map to Normal and the displacement map to Displacement

then while in Experimental mode in the Render settings, enable True displacement in the material’s Settings

then add a subdivision surface modifier in Adaptive mode
