Model legs folding on itself when rigging


So as you can can see the right leg is down and looks normal. The left leg is slightly raised, but the thigh is caving in on itself.

I have messed with weight paints for the past 2 hours and the thigh always caves on itself. What can I do to fix this?

Two most common errors causing this:

  1. Not enough bones - you have no hip bones to fix the hip area, so it will probably always do this.

  2. Not enough, or too many vertices in the mesh, I cannot see your blend file from my machine as you have not posted it, therefore I can’t tell if this is the case…

You should study the Rigify or Flexrig armatures to see the best method of rigging bipeds. Put the armature right first, then look at the mesh, then parent with Automatic Weights before doing any Weight Painting.

Oh yes, I cannot see your weight paints either…
