I am having trouble changing perspectives in blender, ive only just started using blender last night and i am trying to make a low poly pig for a game that me and my friends are developing and i used to be able to change perspective to orthographic mode and now every time i try change it does something with the layers and when i hit 5 on the num pad it says 5 layer and its super annoying cause i need the pig image and that way i cant sorry that im such a noob, any help will be greatly appreciated and im working on a mac if that help with the solution idk sorry guys thank you in advance

Is there some weird configuration on your OS keymap that makes it think that numpad presses are the name as number presses on the top row of the keyboard?
Even if that is the case, there is a work around. Enable Emulate Numpad in the Input section of User Preferences. That should resolve things for you.
