    Challenge #736 Voting CLOSED

    This week's theme: thief

After 2 days of voting, a winner is declared: The voting will close on Wednesday.
The winner picks the theme for next week.

[ If the winner doesn't supply a theme before Thursday 22:30 GMT, the organizer will select the theme. In this case, the winner's theme will be used the next time we are lacking a theme on Thursday 22:30 GMT. :-) ]

Having selected the theme, the winner will not be eligible to enter that week. They may however still submit an image, but it won't be included in the voting.

As there are so many different reasons to enter an entry as 'open', the explanation for that is part of the voting list. :-)

The funny thing about fdo's entry is that I actually saw a case where that had been done. The bike owner had locked the wheels, using a device just like the one shown, but had not locked the frame of the bike.

In another case, someone – I am sure, just to be an a*shole – stole the front wheel.

@Helge As an electronics hobbyist, I thought yours was pretty funny. Using a stolen ring as the toroid core was brilliant. Except perhaps a gold ring wouldn't work if it doesn't have much iron in it? If you don't mind, I'd like to share your image on an electronics forum sometime with credit to you and BA of course.

I thought about that too. But after a while I noticed that even if the joule thief would not work in reality - the image would work in both cases:
    1. If gold cores are ok - I'm fine with that. (=> My thief is rich and doesn't care if it is gold or iron/ferrite/whatever.)
    2. If it doesn't work - I'm fine with that as well. (=> My thief obviously stole a fake ring and just used it for electronics after noticing the mistake.)

WOndering why RobertT post isnt in the poll, this is clearly the best shot in this pole. Was he/she to late orso?

  14. #14
rombout: Thanks, it's non-competing by my choice.

Photox: Great effort, and great results. Congratulations!

    RobertT

Oh God please No! It's not the RobertT's image should be in the poll, It's that everybody else's images should be in the non-competing category, and there shouldn't be a damn poll at all!

The real question is do you consider this a challenge or a competition? For me the two are completely different, and if I'm honest I enjoy a challenge more than a competition.

I know I've given people the impression I thought of it as a competition after I said "I'll Catch Up" to RobertT, but at the time I was simply upset and a bit pissed off with people.

As long as participants understands and except that the voting is not to determine who's image is best, and they do not mind people like RobertT stepping aside and having their artwork voted upon by people that will most likely be voting for the image they think is best, then there is no problem. If a participant does care, like I do, then they should select non-competing.

For me purbosky and appie.123 captured my personal feelings ;-) Both I feel represented completely different things too. Also FYI I didn't vote :-( sorry about that!

As for why I haven't personally entered anything, and also not posted any messages, it's simply because it got to the point were it felt like everything I did was causing problems around here. You see 99 percent of the **** that has happened was by mistake, but as Gordi has pointed out so damn well with his images, I can see how it all looks like I planned it all, and nobody in their right mind would believe the truth anymore.

All I will say is I do not feel like the light at all, but I'm also too dumb to be the Grim Reaper! For me people like rarebit truly light up this place and inspires me and thus I think many others here as well :-) so I hope to see him competing and posting his messages again soon.

I know I need to just ignore a lot of the other people here, and be more like RobertT and keep marching on! but he is a real artist and I'm just a jack of all trades and a master of none!

Personally I'm busy programming at the moment, and when the artistic mood strikes me again I'll be back! I guess I owe a ship, so maybe I'll do something like a nice big dolphin spaceship soon ;-)

I have no idea if this message is the wrong thing to do or not, but I guess it really can't get much worse around here for me, I just hope I haven't made it worse for others!!!!!

    All the best,
    Damien

Oh and here is the song I was listening to after I saw what had happened in the 'Displacment' challenge!

Seems like somebody proved the communication theory wrong, so it all worked out in the end! :-)

wow quite a story, i was just wondering why the image was not in the poll but did show up in that list.

    @3dmad,

So your doing this poll by yourself orso aside from BlenderArtists? I feel like there is some story behind itm cause you where telling me quite a defending story.

  17. #17
    @rombout
I am very sorry rombout! clearly it sounds like you just didn't know about the non-competing category. Really my post was for everybody here not just for you. I simply wanted to state my position on the subject once and for all, so members here were not confused about it anymore.

Whatever yours or anyone else's opinions are on the subject is perfectly fine with me, and I think everybody should feel free to express their own opinions on the subject, if indeed they have any at all.

    All the best,
    Damien

    Cheers
