Is there any free terrain editor available for Blender 2.78?

There is an add-on that comes packaged by default called ANT for making terrains and there is a tree maker called sapling that comes packaged by default. But there is no total solution for landscapes without paying a bundle for a commercial program that I am aware of. Also there’s an add-on that makes grass and weeds and stuff, but it’s not free.

Its not free, but for $50 its pretty useful. It can work with many standard terrain formats and mesh formats (import and export) as well as import/export heightmaps (displacement). You can also sculpt your own terrains from scratch.
