I get this message “Multiple Addons using same name found.” when I go to User Preferences, is this a problem and where is the Addon file on a Mac running OS 10.12.6?

Is it causing you a problem ? Most likely not

Addon file on a Mac running OS 10.12.6?
Could be in a custom location you have set in user preferences, could be in the blender.app or could be in the config file location here
