Smoothed mesh in the view port????

I’m creating a model along side another for reference. But I cannot figure out why the reference looks different in terms of the way it is rendered in the view port. On my model, each face is well defined but on the reference the faces are nicely blended together. I’m having trouble sculpting with this blocky look and I don’t want to subdivide any higher. Here is an example

Why does the latter pic look like it has more vertices despite having the same modifiers and number of vertices(roughly)? What am I missing?
