Add node isn't keeping bright, white area separate from rest of image

I’m following a tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Torcx3hND6s&t=554s He shows how to separate out the bright white area of the letter so the glare and RGB color nodes will only affect that. I was able to do that, but when I attempt to add it back in with the rest of the image with the add node as the tutorial says to do, the glare and RGB nodes affect the whole image. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Also, why isn’t there a controlling curve on the RGB node like I’m used to seeing and as is shown in the tutorial? Also, why are the glare nodes red at the top?

If I make the RGB more red, the whole image gets red.

The last add mixer doesn’t use alpha (the button to the right of the blend mode selector) to affect only the opaque parts. If you follow the tutorial, you’ll see that all the mixers include alpha.

Thanks for responding.

In my images, I don’t see where I did anything different with the alpha on the add node or the view than what was included in the tutorial. Anyway, I got it to work. But I’m not sure what I did.
