Hi guys, this is a model I made a little while ago, of a little known bullpup rifle.

There are a few more renders on artstation - https://www.artstation.com/artwork/KV0n9

This is truly beautiful work. IMO, the rifles and flooring both look outstanding.

A few (beginner) questions: What’d you use for materials/texturing? What’s your rationale for using tris over quads?

very nice work, the modeling is great.

@fikealox, I used Substance Painter to texture the rifle, I cannot recommend the software enough - being able to paint across multiple channels at once, then plug the outputs straight into Cycles’ Principled BSDF is wonderful and intuitive. I should also point out that the ground texture makes use of the new microdisplacement feature in Cycles - otherwise it is a simple texture from this guy https://www.artstation.com/deepmind . Finally, I did of course model in quads, but the wireframe node in Cycles uses render geometry, which is always triangles - one thing I will note though is that in moving models from one piece of software to another, one can avoid inconsistency by triangulating all the faces first, thus preempting any chance of render/baking engines triangulating differently and causing problems later on.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply, your recommendation and your insight. I can’t wait to see the next piece you create.
