cant use intersect (knife)

I’m reading Learning Blender 2nd edition by Oliver Villar

I’m trying to use the knife intersect tool:

here are the steps as stated in the book:

  1. select the part of the mesh that you want to use as a cutter
  2. press control F and select intersect knife. the meshes are cut but kept in their positions
  3. remove any parts you dont know

does this mean select a face then press control f? because that doesn’t work

thanks that video solved it for me. Wasn’t sure what it meant by “selecting mesh you want to use as a cutter”
