rigid bodies blowing apart after I free all bakes

This simulation worked fine and I baked it all up.
Now I want to change a couple things, but when I free the baked simulation and change something, all hell breaks loose with the rigid bodies. I’ve tried changing the solver iterations and steps per second, I tried changing from mesh to convex hull and back again, tried changing the collision margin to 0 and made sure nothing is touching.
It worked fine before I baked it, but now when I free up the bake I have problems

Rigid body physics is very touchy, particularly when there’s still data in the cache. What I do after I free a bake is to save the file and reload it, to assure that the cache is wiped.
