Blender 2.79 GPU support

Hey guys, I just got blender 2.79 and was so excited to see it’s new features, particularly the denoising and AMD support, but after going to user preferences, I found this:

Which means I can’t render with my GPU, it worked with 2.78 so, have they stopped supporting my GPU?
I have an AMD Radeon R9 200 series (which i believe has a GCN architecture over 2.0, although I’m not sure) and I’m running windows 10.

If it isn’t supported in this version of blender, does that mean it won’t be supported in 2.8 and onwards?? Because getting a new GPU could be troublesome given that I’m too young to get a job and they’re pretty damn expensive.

I know fixing localised problems like this can be a problem, but if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this…send help.

If you need anymore info on my system, I’d be happy to tell you. Thanks in advance.

I’d say we’ll need the exact model number of your R9 2xx - there seem to be models within this series that are only GCN 1.0, which is no longer supported in Blender 2.79.

Do you know how I can get my exact model? Thanks for the quick answer btw.

If I am reading these correctly, the R200 series does not support OpenCL. Also they only support OpenGL 2.0, and I believe Blender 2.8 will use a minimum version of 3.x

GPU-Z Video card GPU Information Utility - TechPowerUp

“GPU Cycles rendering on GCN 1.0 cards will not work with Blender versions made after March 2017.”

“If you have such a card, use Blender 2.78c…”

“For now those limitations are considered a TODO rather than a bug.”

Maybe there is hope for GCN 1 owners since it’s considered it a ToDo…?

i managed to get my HD 7950 working, all you have to do is follow this guide (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9m8BVmMpw4) but instead of the sentence that he uses use CYCLES_OPENCL_SPLIT_KERNEL_TEST=1
after that it will work, you need to use the latest version, i got some weird issues in 2.78c
