Blender Hogging 100%CPU On Linux

I am running Blender 2.79 on Ubuntu 17.10 . Blender will start using 100% CPU even if I am not rendering. I am using the Animation Nodes addon which could have something to do with it since when I just load a new file Blender runs at around 7% . (Still seems high for having loaded nothing but new file) . It is a fairly fast i7 laptop so I don’t see why it would use 100% when I am just building a scene. Thanks for any advice.

I had to set the sound setting to none. Setting it back to OpenAL results in 100% cpu on 1 core.
(I did not investigate this further.)
