This looks interesting! However, in BFBGE (2.79) this does not seem to work - I assume you are using a feature in UPBGE or something?!
You could also use the z-Offset value in Blenders Standard materials to make an xRay effect. Did you consider this?

it would be good with isometric obstruction cases maybe…or special x-ray visor to see hidden areas…ala super metroid…nice work.
