Challenge #755 Voting CLOSED

This week’s theme:

The biggest ___ in the universe

After 2 days of voting, a winner is declared: The voting will close on Wednesday.
The winner picks the theme for next week.

[ If the winner doesn’t supply a theme before Thursday 22:30 GMT, the organizer will select the theme. In this case, the winner’s theme will be used the next time we are lacking a theme on Thursday 22:30 GMT. ]

Having selected the theme, the winner will not be eligible to enter that week. They may however still submit an image, but it won’t be included in the voting.

@everyone awesome jobs as usual! Hopefully we can get more entries next challenge despite moving even closer to the Holliday’s .

My vote was tied between DM9 and Putr, while I think they are both awesome I ultimately went with DM9 for his creativity, even though they are both very creative. Putr, by the way, I knew your entry reminded me of something, it was No Mans Sky! But yea, I like your sci fi look a lot. Do you have an online gallery? I would love to see more of your work. With that said I wish everyone would just put their art up on Art Station so I cold dig through it cough helge cough

By the way, in the spirit of Blender, the holidays and competitions I figured I would share the Christmas Competition for Blender Guru! The prizes are really good, I would suggest entering if possible. I just wish I would have found out about it earlier, it’s deadline is Dec 19th. So far there is a dozen or so entries, some pretty nice renders, but i suspect towards the deadline we will start seeing some master pieces.

OMG! I should have been more specific. My entry was not supposed to be here :D. My idea was to make a dense forest with a tree and two jackfruits hanging. One was supposed to be abnormal in size. But the jackfruit texture took most of my time. Putr corps came to the rescue, but then I was left with little time to work on a dense forest. That image was just to test how the fruit would have looked and the scaling.

But, no harm done, right?

Nice work again @putr corps - got my vote again. Good use of colours and overall execution.

I must have a record somewhere for least amount of consecutive votes or in regards to challenges entered

I didn’t have time to finish mine, I did make a couple of updates I didn’t get to put up. I would have gone with my original idea but can’t figure out how to realise it. It was going to be a vista set on Earth. I got in an entry anyway so I am alright with that

Hi! thanks all for your votes

@robproctor83: Thank you very much for your words, they are worth much more coming from a professional like you. I’ve always hidden a bit of internet because I never considered my level high enough to publish it, but in the last few months I’m starting to upload works in behance, there are old and new stuff (https://www.behance.net/PVTRCORPS)

@joshwinkler3d: thanks again for your vote, I have a doubt, what is the black thing on the bottom left of your render? I tried to find out every time I enter the thread :stuck_out_tongue:
sorry my english

@putr corps - That is an exploration rover like what they send to Mars, in an updated version it was a bit clearer.

Busy week it seems. Well, those who made it can now enjoy some comments:

joshwinkler3d: This might be a ad for Mac Donalds in the future, considering how the picture is always bigger than the real thing  I liked the camera (d)effects, and the rover was a nice way of making the scale clear. My only critique is that the salad looks a bit like goose, but considering the amount of radiation this burger gets, it might well be goose

beau11: If god were to bath in our oceans, he would need a duck this size! I liked how the duck is partially obfuscating the sun, leaving two spheres which look like eyes. The earth could be brighter though (specially the atmosphere).

skadoosh: I liked the colours and contrast. Not sure what this is though. Maybe the biggest mystery in the universe?

Ray13: Nice warm colours. The gems are pretty, but the textures look a bit low-res. Also, since the camera is very close to the large ruby, it is a bit hard to understand its shape.

DM9: She is so sweet! That hat is really awesome, and the text looks very cool. The lighting looks a bit too polygonal in my opinion.

fdo: Not completely sure what this is, but it would make for a nice wallpaper. The dust looks pretty nice. I’m curious to know what is happening in the centre!

purbosky: That’s pretty big, all right. I liked how the ray is interrupted in many points. This picture is fairly mysterious, and it makes me ponder what happens next. I see many ways of understanding the picture, which is very interesting. One thing that is bothering me though is that black stripe on top. The alien ship seems to be just a plane.

fcharr: I liked how the planet is a geoid and not a sphere. Also, it has a cute clay feeling to it. For the scale, I think it would make more sense to put the Sun in front of the planet. Right now it might just appear small because it is far away.

didierv: Haha, that’s quite a claim from the baker! I liked the variation in the facades and fonts.

usernew: Someone is going to have a hearty breakfast today! That jack fruit looks pretty nice (although credits go to putr corps here ;), unless you changed his material). That tea cup looks pretty nice too.

caz747: I liked the contrast and the rim lights. The crowd looks pretty cool too. Also, nice reference

str11: That helmet looks really awesome! I don’t know the reference, but I liked the details and the colours. However, it seems you have forgotten to add a random rotation to the particles.

putr corps: This is really impressive. I loved the colours a lot. The details on the rocks are really cool too. I liked how those two people seem to be curious about the huge sphere.

Flying Banana: Those ants must be having quite a party! The ice cream looks nice, and the ant playing king-of-the-hill on that cherry is pretty funny. It is just a bit strange that all ants are looking to the left and are evenly spread (instead of forming paths as they usually do). Also, why are they more interested in the chocolate wrap than with the chocolate itself?

g60: Haha, poor pilot. He is not getting that far with that shuttle  The shuttle looks pretty nice. The clouds are a bit strange, and why are they on fire (in space)?

bazevedo: I liked the colours here, making it look like an old photo. I also see many ways of understanding the disappointment: 1) Someone had to party all alone (there is only one glass). 2) They partied the end of the millennium, but it actually only changed in 2001 (like 1700 is still the 17th century). 3) They didn’t really enjoy the new millennium.
The image looks really realistic, too.

OLG: That diamond must be worth a fortune! I liked how almost everything is reddish, but I think if the sun were orange instead the colours would have worked better.

Helge: Poor fish, can barely move itself in that tank! It looks pretty happy though (maybe it went crazy?). I liked how there are smaller vases below, indicating how much the fish grew.

RobertT: If I understood this correctly, this is a reference to certain sea lifeforms which are actually made of multiple smaller, independent lifeforms. At the same time, it could be a reference to how everything is made of atoms. I liked how the scene feels very organic. And unlike robproctor83, I find the black and white scheme here to be pretty nice

@Millani Thanks for the comments! I always enjoy reading your thoughts on the submissions. The main disappointment that I was alluding to was Y2K. The fact that there was this big build-up and then nothing happened. I remember people talking about how planes were going to stop working, the power grid was going to go out, bank accounts would be wiped out.

Thanks. Millani. for the comments, they’re much appreciated. And cheers to those who voted for me entry, I picked up four this time. I think that’s a record for me.

Thank you millani for your comments, love reading them. I forgot to change name  it should be “the biggest force in the universe” and it supposed to be a black hole

Thanks Millani! I’m pretty sure it went crazy.

our source of procedural energy

Congrats putr corps! Can’t wait to see what you select for the next challenge. Hopefully I will have more time to work on it this weekend.

@Millani: thanks for the comments, as for the black stripes are meant as border effect (there’s another on the bottom too), and the ship thingy is actually a -veeery- squashed sphere object, lol… Btw, seeing the materials and shape of your gigantic ship somehow made me thinking of this cake.

@putr corps: congrats on the winning!

Grats Putr, a win well deserved. Also, by the way, I checked out your gallery! I loved some of your pieces, your art is very unique. I think like Hele and RobertT your art has a unique style to it. In some ways I think that is more important than being a technically good artist. Anyways, I appreciate you thinking I am a pro, I am more a newb though as I only started 3D stuff here the later part of this year. I’ve always had an interest in art though, and looking at your work I would suspect your much the same.

Thanks milani! The tea cup was added solely for the purpose of scaling. Haha…this was just a testing piece.
