Hair isnt acting normally, whats wrong with my mesh?

So I have this problem, when I add hair to my mesh, the hair wont go out in every direction like it should, this is before anything is changed. I have narrowed it down to a problem with my mesh because other objects don’t have this problem but I cant figure out what it is.

Apply the scale on your object with Ctrl+A; the hair particles work off the scale and rotation of the base emitting object. You scale is currently 0.05, 0.06, and 1 which is stretching it out along the local Z axis
