Stop particle emittor object from showing/rendering

Ok so I have this mesh object… that is emitting particles (hair)…

I just want the hair to show in the render (and viewport)…and not the object itself.
So i uncheck the ‘emitter’ option in the particle system tab… which should make the emitter invisible right…?

But its not working… i can still see the object…

what am I overseeing?

With emitter selected:

Properties Window / Object Panel / scroll way down to Cycles Settings tab / Ray Visibility / uncheck “Camera”
