trying to find a solution to an annoying little problem. I have no internet access todsy, but the .blend file will be on its way shortly.
I am rendering a smoke sim animation and wanted to try GPU+CPU combo to speed up the renders.
However, when I open the project in 2.79 w latest experimental build or in 2.8, the smoke render loses all definition except for overall shape and color. Also, when I open in 2.8, my domain won’t display as wireframe despite selecting that as my visibility option.
i also re-baked the sim while trying it in 2.8.
Here is a render from the latest 2.8 (GPU+CPU combo) compared to a stable 2.79 render (GPU only):
It has GPU+CPU too, that 2.79 from buildbot/master is not the same as 2.79 official releases. Remember optimal tile size for 2.79 from buildbot is 16x16. If you use denoising, 32x32 or 64x64.
Anyway changes in smoke have been introduced recently, so you try with 2.79 from buildbot and you say if you still have the same problem.
Edit:
It seems that I read too fast. So you have tried Blender 2.79 from buildbot too… Well, I have also tried with ink drop scene from youtube tutorial and it does not look very different between versions. Can you share the scene?
I remade my ink drop in the 2.79 buildbot version, and I noticed that despite setting my flow object’s temperature difference to 0, it will not behave accordingly. The ink (smoke) continues to rise as if set to a higher temperature.
Could you share the old material with which render looked different between versions? This should not look so different, and if nodes are correct it could be a bug.
