Challenge #770 Voting CLOSED

This week’s theme:

Passion

After 2 days of voting, a winner is declared: The voting will close on Wednesday.
The winner picks the theme for next week.

[ If the winner doesn’t supply a theme before Thursday 22:30 GMT, the organizer will select the theme. In this case, the winner’s theme will be used the next time we are lacking a theme on Thursday 22:30 GMT. ]

Having selected the theme, the winner will not be eligible to enter that week. They may however still submit an image, but it won’t be included in the voting.

Great entries everyone, can’t wait to see how the horse race goes this time.

I had a hard time choosing between Iridesium, Helge, TomZed and Miatpi. I ended up voting for Miatpi. Great entries everyone!

Why do I always feel like I am watching people play this fair game when it comes time for the voting?

Looks like everyone did put some passion into their entries this time!

i really like all of them!!!

I’ve thought (exactly) about that many times.

I always follow my first inner impression. When I watch all of them and think “this one is the one”. That’s how I vote. Because I often try to use another method, and think about which entry took more work. Which one was the most outstanding. Very often, that’s not possible. Because very often, there are at least two or three entries that have the same quality. So I always go back to what I feel inside when voting.

I voted for nentemmc, I just like the composition as a whole, I think that’s a nice achievement for someone who just started with 3d/blender.

@Shenfara Yeah that is a good method for deciding. I was mainly talking about watching the bar graph moving as votes come in. It reminds me of watching the kids play that horse racing fair game. I agree as I tend to do the same thing when voting, then I also take in consideration with the composition, and overall relation to the theme.

I also went with nentemc, for a first entry it’s loaded with great energy and passion. I also am a big fan of scenes that have an interesting point of view. Remember what Bob says, it’s your world, you decide!

I wonder if people realize there are 13 bunnies in my render…

I hadn’t noticed. Are they supposed to represent Jesus and the 12 apostles? I think people will not count above 4 unless there is some good indication that the number is relevant, or if it is really easy to count (for example, 3 groups, each with 4 rabbits, and one isolated rabbit).

"Cleric: And the Lord spake, saying, “First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.
Brother Maynard: Amen.
All: Amen.”
(Monty Python and the Holy Grail)

thanks guys! i didnt think id get any votes. i look forward to next week!.

@Helge Now I want to model a Holy Hand Grenade

Some comments:

DM9: You captured the chaotic shape of the dress pretty well. Even though it is pretty abstract, it still reminds of a Flamenco dancer. The spikes are a bit too exaggerated at some points in my opinion.

Iridesium: It is really amazing how you managed to express so much with so little. The shapes are simple, yet I can feel the joy and passion of the musician. Lighting is pretty good too.

JerryGraphikos: Interesting use of empty space, it makes the person looks quite lonely. I think you could’ve made the boat a bit clearer though, I thought the guy was walking on snow at first

Helge: Haha, poor ladybug, barely knows its doom is approaching. Good thing the little fellows don’t need to worry about heights
I liked the juxtaposition between organic shapes and artificial/man-made polygonal shapes.

locnar: Ice cream! Funny how you represented the topic in an indirect way.

TomZed: At first I thought “Poor butterflies!”, but then I realized they are made of paper. Nice idea! I liked the little details, with drawings ready to be cut and all the different objects. The shadow projected by the pencils also looks pretty cool.

nentemmc: Nice how you managed to tell a story only using simple shapes. I can totally imagine the guy smiling as the squirrels surrounded him to listen to the music. Though I wouldn’t have the courage to sit like that on a bridge over an bottomless pit

bluberri: Haha, you also thought about passion fruit  The liquid looks good, a bit too transparent maybe. I think it would’ve made sense to use metaballs to make the spheres around the seed merge with the rest of the juice.

RayVelcoro: This feels pretty warm. Nice how the heart shape appears everywhere.

Shenfara: This reminds me of this guy from Grim Fandango for some reason. The skeletons are pretty cute, specially with the cap. I just think you could’ve made one of them somewhat different (for example, with an orange cap) to draw attention to one point.

wallacemarino: Nice jewel. I liked the little details on the gold. I just think the camera distortion is a bit too strong.

Munno101: Interesting idea, it definitely takes a lot of passion to write and read poetry. The feather looks pretty good, and I liked how the pages look old.

Miatpi: Very strong image. I liked the contrast between the red blood and the dark ground. The God’s rays are also very passing to the theme.

FlyingBanana: I liked the old-photography look. The perfume flask also looks very nice. I just think you should’ve made the bright areas much brighter and less saturated, so that I cannot properly see what is on them. The way it is, the vignette is kind of drawing attention away from the image.

fcharr: I liked those bunnies a lot. Pretty fitting for Easter too. This also reminds me a bit of some Renaissance paintings, with elements being balanced (6 rabbits on the right and 6 on the left). I suppose this is a reference to the Last Supper? If so, some carrots to indicate that they are eating would’ve been a nice touch.

Piet: Haha, you really like Suzanne. Funny how you made her the Messiahs of Blender

RobertT: I really liked how the piano keys seem to be hair at the same time. The hidden shape of a head was really cool (or perhaps I should say hidden piano :D)

purbosky: You really love that character  This looks like the room of a big fan of hers, with possibly many more paintings on the walls that we are not seeing. I just hope the “object” of affection is the cup and not the girl

OLG: Haha, nice play on words. The flame looks pretty cool with those filters, as do the roses.

Photox: She looks very cheerful. Interesting how one can use Blender 2D art too. Btw, is the violin missing one chord?

Thanks for the kind words Millani.

And thank you all for all the votes. Can’t believe I’ll get to second place.

Thanks Millani! If the ladybug falls, he’ll just join your worms, which are probably living somewhere down there. I guess, he’ll be just fine.

thanks Millani  I modeled and rigged the bunny in 2016. I was thinking of doing a religious entry for this WC, I also wanted to bring back my bunny and do some work with him. Didn’t have time to add carrots, maybe next Easter

Thanks Millani! I really do enjoy your comments to everyone all the time! If this forum gets any bigger you’ll have a handful :stuck_out_tongue:

Alright… You guys have any new theme ideas? I was thinking:
Antihero
Grease Pencil (as in using blenders grease pencil in your entry)
Unforeseen future

Or something like that…
Any ideas?
