The Open Animation Practice Thread (Dial- up Beware)

I realized that my animation is seriously lacking, so I made this model and rig to practice. 4 MB animated GIF, beware.
It'll be choppy until it loads completely.

I'm going to continue posting animations, and anyone else is welcome to critique, comment, and post their own.

Funny story actually... haha... I rendered and animated it forwards... It's backwards because stopmotion was broken, so I used GIMP, and it did it backwards... I might try to redo it tomorrow.

I'm pleased with the kick and crumple animations, but the walk cycle is... er... feminine.

    Anyone know why?

Perhaps this post, courtesy of Lisae will help...
The main difference between a "masculine" walk and a "feminine" walk (both males and females can have either of these), is in terms of how far apart your feet are through the walk cycle. For a masculine walk, the feet stay quite separated through the walk. For a feminine walk, you put one foot in front of the other.

This means that when you see the walk from the front, the masculine walk doesn't have much hip sway at all, and there is visible space between the legs. The feminine walk has a lot of hip sway because she has to kind of move around her legs! And there is no visible space between the legs. Having the feet one in front of the other also gives her more of an hourglass appearance, because the legs taper down to the feet.

From the side view, a masculine walk might involve puffing the chest out (moving it forward) so the man looks strong. A feminine walk might involve moving the hips forward.

I think I actually remember that post. Oh well. I'll work on it. How do you like the guy on the floor's animation?

    Thanks LOTR Junkie

The arms pushing and the crumple seemed good to me, but his body and legs seemed stiff as a board. I know that's what you're supposed to do for push-ups, but for some reason is looks un-naturally stiff. Good work, probably better than I would have done!
