Stratocaster Reconstruction in Blender
Hi everyone — I’m Shane. I wanted to share a project that became my introduction to Blender and eventually turned into a full mechanical and electrical reconstruction of a Stratocaster.
When I started this, I barely knew the software. I watched a few tutorials just to get oriented, but as the project grew, I relied on them less and less. The guitar itself became the teacher. Every contour, cavity, and component pushed me to learn the next tool or workflow.
Project Stats
This ended up being a much deeper build than I expected:
- 355 objects
- 3,524,521 vertices
- 7,828,364 edges
- 4,301,321 faces
- 8,668,328 triangles
These numbers come from modeling every part as its own component — not just the visible surfaces, but the internal structure as well.
What’s Included
I approached this like a teardown in reverse:
- Full internal cavity geometry
- Pickup coil structure
- Switch wafers and wiring harness
- Worm gears and tuner internals
- Screw threads, ferrules, plates, and hardware
- Accurate body contours and neck profile
- Realistic assembly order and part relationships
If it exists on the real instrument, I tried to model it.
Why I Built It
This project taught me Blender from the inside out. It also taught me the Strat’s anatomy in a way I never expected. I wanted to understand how everything fit together, and the only way was to build it piece by piece.
Customization
Because everything is its own object, the model is fully customizable:
- Neck woods
- Inlays
- Pickguard materials
- Body finishes
- Hardware variations
It behaves like a real instrument — swap a part, and the rest still fits.
