I have an 11 minute DivX file, and It’s 180 MB!!!
How could this be? Anyway, here are the specs:
The Video:
720x480 (DV Resolution)
24 bit
24 fps
249 kbps
The Audio:
How can this be? Oh yeah, and I’m making a DVD out of it, and DVD have non-square pixels. How do I convert it so that it doesn’t appear stretched horizontally?

720x480 is pretty big for something you want to have a small filesize.
Here’s how audio works… 705 kilobytes per second. Think about that one for just a moment, and your size issue will make more sense. What is an mp3 saved in… 128? Unless you’re recording this in a studio in Dolby surround, that is way way overdoing the audio clarity.

yeah, I suppose I should make 2: one for the DVD, and one for the web.
wait…11 minutes=668 seconds…668*704=470,272…so…Oh! WOW 470MB!!! :o :o No wonder!!!

… uncompressed, it’d be that much.

PCM is uncompressed. Choose a compression codec, like MP3, instead.

Hmm…I can’t find a Mp3 compression option, or any other audio compression option for that matter, in zweistein.

How on earth did you get 704 kbs anyway??? especially since it’s 16bit?
can’t you just save it as a .wav???
If you’re going for DVD quality 180mb doesn’t seem like too much actually. And why are you using divx anyway??? you want MP2 for dvd’s
I personally use sonic foundry vegas for all my video editing/conversions.

Are you sure you got it right with bit and bytes(= 8bit)?
And yes you should probably make a special version for the web. Since you probably don’t want to use divx for dvd.
You cant find an mp3 codec?
Google: LAME ACM
Install that and you would have an mp3 compression option…well…you should…

mp3 for video, am I hearing this right ? I thought it was only for music
mp2 for video, its what dvds and digital telly use. You can get some dvd players that do divx, but they’re not very widespread.

Well, your video most likely has an audio track which also has to be compressed too you know…

Yeah, but zweistein doesn’t have an audio compression option, and I use zweistein! And I don’t want to have to compress the movie again in virtualdub, just to compress the audio! :x :-?

It directly copies the video stream without recompressing or anything (you can cut frames this way too).
In the video menu, second block of options.

Ok, I tried recompressing the audio using direct stream copy in virtualdub, but it crashes, saying:
out of bound memory access
or something like that. It always crashes on the 56th frame, and I’m using mp3 compresion for the sound. Help!
