1950s Guitar

Hey blender folk. I’ve been working on a bunch of assets for what will eventually be a detailed 1950s scene, but thought I’d share a couple of the bits I’ve made so far in a little micro-scene. The topology on the guitar body took a couple of attempts and I’ve tried to make everything look a little but worn and used- especially the couch and footstool. this has been a pretty good learning curve for me! Any comments or advice are always welcome :o

OK, just one comment, as a fan of the 50s, but I’m pretty sure the sound board wouldn’t have the soundholes cutting in to it.

OK: Edit. The overlay board (I’m sure it has a real name) looks too floaty, too

Hi Roken, thanks for your comment! I actually based this off the 17" benedetto archtop acoustic guitar. Something a bit like this:

Those f-shaped sound holes were pretty common in the 1950s.

The scratch-plate (I think thats what you mean by overlay board) is attached to the body with little metal brackets and is held about an inch or so above the surface of the body. I did model the bracket, although you can’t see it from this angle. Perhaps you’re right though- it does look a bit floaty. I’ll probably move it closer.

Ahh, I hadn’t realised the scratch plate was elevated. I only have my own guitar for reference, and of course it’s stuck directly to the body on mine. Your model makes more sense now

I think you’re right though. The scratch plate looks too separate from the guitar. The angle of the light probably doesn’t help, as it casts a huge shadow.

Check out any Gibson 335 or similar, it’s a classic look.
