1969 camaro coupe (need advice)

Hi all!
I just started modelling a '69 camaro coupe ( one of the best cars ever built :stuck_out_tongue: )
and this is what i come up with after 2 hours of hard work :eyebrowlift:.

Please give me some advice to improve my work!

Don’t know much about cars but that is a nice looking car. Are you doing parts of the car separately? Never made a car before but I would think it would be easier to get the whole car first before focusing on one section. Then separating the different parts from the main mesh, but as I said I have no experience in making cars…so you can ignore that if you want.

Found this blue print while i was image searching the car hehe. Thought I would share, it seems useful. I think it is the same model.

Looking forward to seeing this car driving around in blender

Wow nice blueprints was really hard to find some!
I did i as you said and just built a basic car first then go into detail!

Next step finished with the basics!

Your topology has a good flow in places and a bad one in others. Looks a little rough around the driver side door.

Thank you for your constructive critique!
I worked on the driver side door and on the front and back as well.

tell me what you think
PS: this is my first car model

You should completely delete those front faces there is a grill/ headlights, the body does not continue over there.
The door looks much better.
One thing you should keep in mind, is not to use any tiangles. Yes there are exceptions to this general rule of thumb but, get rid of all of your triangles in this mesh.

I will add the grill and the headlights in front of these faces as in the original!
I will delete the triangles!

EDIT: tried to create the grill but need help how to make it look like one

Worked a little more on the grill and the back.

Good job so far. Looks better than my first car model. Keep working on getting cleaner topology, that’s probably the hardest part.

Well you need to separate the parts or if anything prepare to separate them. Things like the hood, the various sections of the body work. the whole thing looks Very organic.

You also should make use of crease values for some of the car’s shape.

Thanks for your advice!
@digitalwolf it was my plan to seperate the different parts after some more work in detail and i hope then it looks more like a car.

You also should make use of crease values for some of the car’s shape.

Can you help me with that? I don’t know how to do that !

Yeah i know that i’m using the loop cut tool alot! Thanks for the link!

Hi nickdiesel, Attempting your first car is always hard work, it’s not until you’ve probably tried you’re 5th car that it all starts to fall into place. One really useful tutorial was from Andrew Price on Blender Cookie which shows you how to model a Porshe, this is by far the most complete tutorial I’ve seen and I learnt a lot from it, even after spending several years with blender. Andrew Price’s tutorials rock! - the 69 camaro is a lovely car :o)

I can’t see close running edge loops in your wire frame shot from post number 9, can you post wireframe shots of your car front, side, top. I don’t think your edges are ‘beveled’ as all the edges that should be sharp currently look very soft.

@ Jay-artist thank you i already put the link of it to my folder

the 69 camaro is a lovely car
Yes it is!
Here some new wireframe shots. As you may noticed I’m not finished with it so i will add these sharp parts when i go more into detail!

those wireframes are not good enough to crit with. take your car mesh into edit mode, solid view rendering, remove the car paint and leave it in a simple grey scale shade(or any light color). than from an orthographic front, top, left, right view take screen shots and post those here.

Here is a quick example of an old car I have started working on again. That is the kind of wireframe shot that helps people better advice you and perharps help you in getting your topology right.

right now my advice is to forget detail or extras and focus on getting the body of the car right. your mesh is far too dense for this car you could cut your mesh density to about 1/3 or 1/2 of what it is. Doing this will make you work so much easier to handle and correct. I imagine your mesh right now is a nightmare to smooth or work on as you need to tweak so many verts.

these are some of the common problem often I see with new car modelers; they always seem to go too dense to quickly, making things far more difficult than the should be. they rush through the modelling, speed comes with experience so deliberately slow down if you are doing something for the first time. They don’t use enough photography references, for a car collect over 30-50 photo-references and study them before you even lay down a vertex.

Car modeling is about realism so the more accurate you are the better.

So post some better wire frames and you will get better advice.

Here some new shots but i’m using a mirror modifier so you can see only one side.
If you want i could also upload my file for a better view. Thanks for help!

pack your references into your blend file(file->external data-> pack into .blend) and upload your file I will download it and play around with it. But now I can definitely see that it is far too dense. if you do that just keep this file around. you can than have something to compare to see how dense mesh can be difficult to work with.

when people get their mesh that dense they usually apply the sud-d modifier and it is usually done at the end when the surfaces are smooth and good to just get it dense enough to add small details like radar sense etc.

Yes you’re right I just watched some parts of the blender cookie porsche modeling tutorial and I think i have to start it again!
Anyway here is the file.
