Hi! Before Blender 2.42, Vertex Parent used 1 or 3 vertices as parent.
In 2.42, we could use as many vertices as wanted to create the “parent group”.
In 2.43 RC1, the Vertex Parent feature seems to work the old way again, allowing only 1 or 3 vertices.
Is it a normal behaviour or an error when compiling the release (with old code)?
Philippe.
Haven’t tried it , but if you are sure you could log this problem in the bugtracker…
Hi!
1- I’m sure that it works again like in old versions, but I don’t know if it is a bug or a decision of the coders…
That’s why I’d like more response on this topic. You are the first who read it.
2 - For the bugtracker, I have a big problem: once I’m logged, I can’t acces to the bugtracker page where you can post reports. I don’t know the reason why.
I have reported a bug whithout problem 3 weeks ago, and I can’t access for almost two weeks…
I have reported the problem, but I got no solution. I have checked With IE and Netscape.
When I’m logged I can open every links, except the bug tracker links !
When I’m not logged, I can acces to the bugtracker page, but I can’t validate my posts, because I’am not logged ! It’s very strange !

Hi Roubal,
I’m seeing the same behavior that you are seeing. I’m guessing that this was a design decision. In 2.42 it appears that what is actually happening is that out of the group of vertexes you use for parenting, Blender selects only 3 and uses those (I don’t know for sure, just guessing from my observations). Therefore they might have decided that it made more sense to force the user to choose which 3 vertexes to use.
Just my 2 cents. It would be nice to know for sure one way or the other.
Hi Sketchy !
Thanks for your comment. It could be a good explanation.
I hope that someone knowing the answer will read this post.
Anyway, the files done with 2.42a seem to work normally.
I have noticed no problem with my car animation opening the file with 2.43 RC1.
