XP had Microsoft OpenGL “fallback” software drivers for OGL features that were unsupported in IHV drivers. (Independent Hardware Vendors… e.g. ATI, NVidia, etc.)
Vista/Win OGL drivers were the sole responsibility of the IHV. MS no longer provides software rendering “fallback” drivers in Windows.
So, your vid card drivers are the likely culprit here.
You may want to try one of those optimized final bells and whistle builds too. Like Kai’s or Zebulon’s Blender.
Doesn’t Windows 7 have an “Emulate XP” mode? You may want to try that out.
Also, in windows, at least with nVidia drivers, you can specify exactly what features any given program gets to use from your video card. You may want to set that to “Let Application Manage” if you have a nVidia card.
