2.61: Defocus doesnt apply to a textured plane with alpha

any suggestions?

Sorry I don’t want to sound rude but this quite an old issue. Anyway the problem is that z depth is object or face based so alpha keyed art is disrespected. Try searching defocus and alpha. Anyway my solution was to simulate a z depth pass using mist.

Of course that won’t help with the semitransparent tree in your picture as the blur is only applied on the final comp layer, cycles would do better with an optical 3d blur.
