2.65 - Blender freezes and the GPU shuts down during UV mapping

Hi,

I encountered some issues with teh last release. Before the final release, I noticed long time for start Blender (too long compared to 2.64), and also some issues during edit mode:

  • I have two objects, not so many polys; I joined the objects, and when I select all the vertices of one object and start to grab, automatically a vertex from the other object appears stiched to a vertex of those selected, then about 2-3 seconds an Blender crashes.
It happened more than 12 times, then I tried to extrude some vertex, grab, and deleted the extruded vertex: the problem disappeared.

Then I installed the last official version, r52859, and I encountered another problem:

  • A very basic mesh of a spaceship, I splitted the view to have a 3D view and a UV Image Editor; If I start to unwrap, Blender freezes for 2-3 seconds, than a black screen, and then the system resumes the GPU drivers and Blender is blocked on a white screen.
I tried wither experimental either supported settings, either cycles either blender internal, the problem remains.
I tried to upgrade Catalyst drivers to the latest version, nothing.

I just tried out with Blender 2.64a and it’s okay.

My system:
Acer Aspire 5551G
AMD Phenom II X3 N830 3x2.1Ghz
4 GB DDR3 RAM
ATI Radeon HD5650 1GB RAM
Windows 7 x64

I hope we can find the bug and fix it xD

It might not even be a bug. Radeon is just stupid. I’ve had so many computers with Radeon, and blamed so many other people and programs in the past, I just gave up with it all together.

The crash might have something to do with blender, but your GPU shutting off? Seeing is how you have a 5000 series, if you’re thinking about keeping Radeon, get a higher series, like 6000 at least. That should solve the problem with it shutting off, because that’s happened to me before…

Thank you McThingy.

I also have suspect of the GPU. Today I will try on theworkstation (equipped with ENGTS450).

Usually I use my Laptop a lot, for modelling, unwrapping, animation, 2D sketching and paint etc. because it’s fine for such things and I can work everywere (Home, bed, sofa, University, barbeur shop, Pub, everywhere). Then, when I must use physics, and I have to edit the materials, lights and render (Cycles), I use the workstation (i5, 6GB RAM, ENGTS450).
At the time I bought my Laptop, I didn’t considered Cycles… I needed a replacement Laptop as son as possible, and when I saw a new 800€ Laptop for sale at 390€ I caught the occasion.

However, even if the bug is only for Radeon, there’s a way for me to help the world, I don’t know, maybe generating a log that will help the coders?

Thank you
