Hi,
Former, visible on 2.6 documentation, we had tip and root size options available.
On 2.72, even if Strand Render option is available, I can not see tip and root size options.
I need to draw dread locks, so large hair.
So do you know if the option has moved, or what?
In blender 2.72
Blender Render
In the material settings under Strand settings
Cycles Render
In the Particle / Cycles Hair settings
Hi,
Perfect! Thanks a lot.
Even if I’ve activated Cycles render under info menu window, I can find strand menu under Particles>Cycles Hair settings, but no impact.
And, under Material, I can not find strand menu.
Show us what you see then. Supply all relevant screenshots and blend files
I’ve all but Strand submenu(cf image)

You need to look more closely at the screenshots Richard posted:
Material > Strand = Blender Internal Renderer
Particle > Hair Settings > Root/Tip = Cycles (scroll the “Particle” tab down until you see the hair settings)
Different render engines = different settings.
Thanks
I ve no problem with Particles menu : I can find Strand
But nothing under Material : do you see Strand in Material of my .blend file?
If you are using cycles renderer then look in the particles
If you are using blender render look in the materials
Make your mind up which one you want to use. The root/tip options are in one place and one place only, the place being dependant on the renderer you have chosen to use
Thanks

Ah ok, it’s one or the other. Perfect!
But as you can see in my .blend, with Cycles render, however value for root or tip : 5 or 100 : it changes nothing in the thickness of the hair!???
Strange!
And what do you have in User Preferences>System>Compute device?
And next, is it CPU?
I own a GeForce 7300GS graphic card, and http://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/7485/enabling-gpu-rendering-for-cycles related, It’s not compatible.
Thanks
Above images were both with cpu rendering
Thanks a lot.
In fact, I thought Cache>Bake was enough to see the result.
But we do must render with F12 to see modified hair, all simply!
