Are you people able to set an image as bakground (as reference image, for top, front …etc… view? ), or is it just me?

Yes I can in 2.76 RC2, just as previous versions
Tested with 2.76 RC2 and work fine on Laptop, Opensuse 13.2/64, dualcore, old intel GPU.

Weird i cannt… tried jpg png bmp’s GPU CPU cycles BI… none works.
Could it be something that interfears with this ?
Hm, maybe an addon.
You could start Blender from a command shell with blender.exe --factory-startup to start without you local configuration.
