There used to be, after a new installation, a choice, on the splash screen, to “save settings”. Now it’s gone. Add-ons are missing, theme settings are gone, there appears to be no config file. Is there some new trick I can use to install the latest and get all those settings back as they were (like in the past)?

Hi and yes, it is possible to get “Copy over old settings” back.
Delete the folder “2.77” in your Blender foundation directory or, on Linux, in your .config > Blender directory.

why is it taking so long to install it like 5 minutes!
looks like we don’t need now to tell it to recover the old start up set up now !
also did not see any splashscreen !
