2 data-linked duplicate objects with diffrent textures

Hey all I got two data-linked duplicates and I’d like to put diffrent textures on them, however the same texture appear on them both. is there a workaround for this? if no, how do I make the duplicate a stand-alone object? thanks in advance

Not a workaround but a solution.

Click an the OB-Button in the Links and Pipeline Panel to link the material to the object instead of the mesh.

I did this, and it works in the panels. but when I try to render the image, the duplicate object has the first object’s texture… did I miss something?

Did you create a new material for the second object? Did you unlink the texture?

I just removed the materials and textures (removed the materials by clicking on the “X” in links and pipeline, and removed the textures by clicking on “clear” in texture tab) and readded a new texture to the linked object. however, it still seems to have the texture from the first object linked as they’re both rendered as blanks. And I did make sure that the material I made after the cleaning was linked to the object (by pressing OB). Thanks for your help!

Try and give the objects two different colors. If that fails upload your blend-file somewhere.

Ah, I solved it somehow with playing around with colours. Thanks a ton for your help, much appriciated! Edit: out of curiousity, you don’t happen to know how to rotate a texture 180 degrees? it seems you only can rotate it 90 degrees with the axis in map input tab…

Set the cursor to the object. Add an empty. Use Map Input Object, type the name of the empty into the field next to the object button. If you rotate the empty you will rotate the texture to your liking.

Hope that helps.
