BAM!
BAM! is an animation about cute anime girl who hunts down giant robots that threaten her city
The final animation
The final animation came out pretty much how I pictured it in my head.Process
(This is a summary from my origional posts on the Reallusion forums - I organised the timeline for clarity)1. Source
I based this project on a sketch I did.
2. Create the character body
Process is pretty straight forward - use Character Creator to get the basic shape, send to Blender using Victor Soupday tools, add additional sculpting.
3. Create some clothes
Using blender to model
And a cute bunny bag
4. Create some hair
Once again, just Blender modelling
5. Return to Character Creator and make sure the rig works
Skinning of clothes and hair done in Blender
Posing
And expressions
5. Props
For the story I imagined I needed several props.
A scooter
A rifle
A robot
6. Environment
Using a combination of modelling and geometry nodes I aimed for an anime styled environment. (I tweaked the final result later on)
This was also enabled to have a low poly equivalent which I could export to iClone for animation
7. Animation
With all elements ready, I shipped it all over to iClone for animation.
With everything there, it’s easy to make a shot list/story board - which is way quicker than drawing it by hand
Then the process is repetitive - animate in iClone and send animation to Blender
I enjoy using iClone due to the realtime nature of the playback and the easy to use tools like reach targets, look at targets, etc
8. Render
With animation done, it’s back to Blender. Since this is meant to be anime style, there is a whole lot of custom elements that need to be added, so I layer on NPR techniques - custom shaders, etc
Shader test
From iClone to Blender
And render and DONE!
Extra elements
Just some extra elements for the competition.A turntable animation
And some beauty shots
