I started (out of boredom and curiosity) to make a car (original, I know) based on a 1969 Ford Mustang fastback… So far I’ve gotten it to look like this:
most of the time was spent on the holes where the windows will go, just to make them look right when subsurfed and not mess the mesh up… and playing with the new compositioning tools (i’m using the 2.42 PRE form the development forums :D) here’s a version overlayed with its wire:
currently I’ll be trying to do the front grill and lights in a clean and sane way…
[note: I apologize in advance for the crappy servers the pictures are stored on. I’ll move them to imageshack as soon as it stops to spawn weird errors when I’m trying to upload an image]
The only bad thing about the modelling I see right now is that you cut the doors too early in the process and you have BIG SEAMS where the door meets the body of the car. Just weld them back in but keep the geometry so it is easy to cut them later on, when the modelling is more advanced
18/06/06 I’ve made some modifications in what little free time I had. I will have to put this project on hold for a week or so as my exams are coming near. But here is the car in its current form (with the wire):
The doors could have come out better and I’ll work on them, but there is something else that’s bugging me at the moment - it’s the roof line near the rear window:
It sort of bulges when subsurfed and I have no idea how to keep it faily consistent throught its whole lenght… Any ideas? (Or how to keep the outer circle of the window polys from covering the inner circle when subsurfed?) - I prefer solutions with less added geometry and more edge creasing (or however you spell that…)

I’ve had some time, so I’ve made some progress - I guess the bulging of the roof isn’t so vosoble now. Added the side vents like in a '77 GT500. The wheels and rims are a rush job and will be changed in the future. Those are more like a proof-of-concept (Just to make sure I could actually do them :))
Note: the camera position is the same as in the previous images, but I’ve rotated the car a bit, 'couse it turned out I didn’t notice my reference images were also a bit rotated… And the ground went up to match the wheels
