2D artwork with aid of 3D

Hey folks its been aeons since i posted here

Now i dunno if this is the place to put it, so mods, please move it if its in the wrong place.

Ok, thats out of the way, heres what i got. I made a scene in blender and am using it in photoshop to paint over. So basically, i’ve used 3d as a reference and the rest is 2d. Just wanna ask you folks how this looks, especially the costume design. I’ve got second thoughts about it. To me, it seems a bit dull for the scene. Anyways its a WIP so, any help out there is welcome

I’m a big fan of anime (the good ones) and i’ve tried to make my own style of imagery while incorporating anime conventions (a bit much by the looks of it though).

Looking very cool Riskbreaker.

Can you show us the CG portion only? Would be interesting to see.

Yeah, I think that belongs here, I still find it to be a valid use of 3d. I’ve been meaning to try it sometime. It still involved modelling, and the drawing over the top is really just like texturing. Looks cool, I’ll look forward to seeing more.

thanx guys.

Heres the original

Hey man, good to see you again!

That looks very good to me (the non anime expert).
Is it the same guy in different costumes, or two different guys?

Hey rwv01
no no, its two different guys. I havent done much yet with their features to destinguish them. Been concentrating on costume design (one of my biggest weak points). Dang, i gotta get some sleep, didnt realise its 3 am.

I think it looks very cool ! you should do some more work on your 3d guys, and then post some more renders of them. Keep up the good work!

For the time being im concentrating on 2d. Trying to build up a portfolio
But, rest assured, i will re-do these guys in 3d, maybe.

Anyways, folks, thanx for the replies. Heres an update i did a while ago.
Decided to dump the hood costume and went on to create their hairstyles. Dunno if they’re any good. Im scouring the net now for good anime-like costumes that would suit my characters - http://www.anime-model-sheets.com if anyone’s interested

Got into kind of a mental block about the second guy’s costume, but i had an idea for the background so i jumped into blender for some little vert pushing

This piece is coming on a little slow. Probably because im working on re-doing my site at the same time.

that reminds me so much of the Gantz manga method. take a look here:
