2D Cutout Animation with Vector Graphics

Hi folks,

I’m showing you my first blender animation which I did for the company that I work for. We’re not an animation studio and I was left on my own with everything from learning blender basics to storyboarding to animating to recording and editing sound. There are still many things that could be improved still, but time didn’t allow for that and I am still quite satisfied with the final result.

I’d love to read your thoughts on it, I’ll also appreciate critical comments. In the beginning I wasn’t sure if Blender is the right tool for this kind of 2D animation but I’m proud to contribute a piece that shows that you don’t need AfterEffects or similar proprietary software for this job - it can easily be done with Blender.

The spoken audio is in german so I’ll explain the main idea quickly: It’s a business-to-business sales video with the aim to convince potential business partners of the qualities of our products (=crossword riddle magazines) in a quick, entertaining way.

The base vector graphics are mostly taken from freepik.com and edited in photoshop before importing into blender for animation. Video cutting and audio was done in Reaper.

Thanks to all here at blenderartists (especially Richard Marklew) who helped me out in the beginning , when I had never done anything with blender and hardly any animation before.

cheers, oystersauce

It looks really good. For the first animation you’ve ever done it looks AWESOME!! Well done. You’re das manner…

Well done, you can be satisfied. I’ve done 2D animations in blender (short cartoons) for a friend’s wedding, I started animating in the video editor but ended up animating everything in the 3d viewport, wich I was more confortable with. How did you proceed?
