2D editor still shows a cube when unwrapped

I have a few questions actually, but lets start with the first one that gets me stuck. I created seams for this part of the couch, unwrapped it but it still shows as a cube in 2D view. I have created the couch from cube blocks, but this is not supposed to be like that right? What am i doing wrong?

Next questions is:

  • How to unwrap all couch parts together and how to add them all in one 2D sheet.
  • If anyone is familiar with The sims 4 game. How do you move from this point on. Do you use photoshop for texturing or just blender. How do you create the correct files for The sims 4 game.

Thanks in advanced
Im a beginner, so explaining it in simple terms would it useful. Just started yesterday.

I suspect you started with the default cube and scaled it while in object mode. This changes the object scale value (seen in object properties). If you want to unwrap correctly you either have to scale the object in edit mode so you’re actually changing the mesh or scale in object mode and then apply the scale (select the object and use Ctrl+A to apply the scale).
Unwrap once you have done this.

Join them together before unwrapping (Ctrl+J) or use something like the TextureAtlas addon https://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Extensions:2.6/Py/Scripts/UV/TextureAtlas

ok thanks, you were right. I didnt scale it the right way. Now its ok. Is there a way to undo ctrl J as well? Cause before i had connected two parts with that option, but when i wanted to scale one part, i wanted to disconnect them again.

Separate (shortcut P) https://www.blender.org/manual/modeling/meshes/editing/misc.html?highlight=separate#separate

I hit ctrl + J after selecting the parts i want in object mode, but when i hit P after i do this, the 3D window turns all grey and i dont think they disconnected again or undid the ctrl + J part.

I also noticed the 2D unwrapped parts from all those connected parts are connected together, but i want to move, scale and rotate them separately. is that possible when they are connected in the 3D window?
