2nd Time Sculpting Human [Finished]

For the thumbnail:

Guess im gonna call it done. Started as a character study but evolved into something very different. There are many things that im unhappy with but there is no meaning of spending more time on this. Most obvious things are,
1- There is some kind of glitch on the brick textures, there are some stretching but i have no idea why, it looks fine in viewport
2- Stones on the bridge are mirrored, i should have changed them but yeah
3- That little boat doesnt look great, i modelled and textured it in like 5 minutes just to see how it looks but in the end i decided to keep it
4- The guy in the back is the same model, i dont know if its that obvious but of course i didnt have time to sculpt a second character since the first one took long enough

I hope you can tell whats happening in the scene. Guess im gonna focus more on modelling/sculpting instead of trying to create a whole scene for a while but it was fun nonetheless.

Any kind of criticism is wellcome.

Just started sculpting this and wanted to see what you guys are thinking. I know its a bit rough sculpt but i wanted to get the general shapes right before going in too much detail.
I didnt like the legs but in the final scene legs will be covered with cloth so it doesnt matter much i guess and for the same reason i probably wont sculpt the feet but hands are a big problem, for some reason i just cant get them right, im just hoping that this is at least acceptable.

Are you kidding me? The hands look great! They’re much better than what most of us can do.
As for anything else, the only issue I have is the proportions.
If you’re sculpting an adult man, his body is too small.
But if you’re sculpting a short person, then there’s nothing wrong.

Thank you! The problem with the hands is that there are so many little details and it looks really weird if you cant get those details right, and mines are looking weird to me no matter how much i work on them.

As for the proportions, im sculpting an adult man so body shouldnt be small. I used the metarig from the rigify addon as reference but i guess i still need the adjust the body.

you need to check the anatomy of the arm. The muscles coming from the lower arm into the upper arm looks wrong.

Grab one of the Andrew Loomis standard 8 head proportion drawings and compare and correct.

@humanartist thanks for pointing that out. I only realized that after i posted this, i hope now it looks less weird.

@tyrant_monkey this helped me alot. I try to look at many references as possible but sometimes even the simplest things slip from my eyes.

the new ones looks better. Dont grab too much references they shall give u head ache.2-3 ref wouldnt hurt. But the most important is human muscle ref i think u should have it ^^.

Can you show me which part is wrong? I dont want him to be too mascular but all the references show mascular men so its kind of harder to make less mascular.

It looks better, but the arms still feel kind of short and the thigh feels a little bit long

Tried to fix the proportions as much as possible and now i want to move on in this project. I know i still have a ton of things to fix, i can spend weeks on fixing them but even after that it wont be perfect. So id rather move on instead of stucking at one thing.

I retopologized the model, dont know if it looks ok since i dont have much experience. Depending on what you guys think ill go to the next step which is rigging.

If you are happy with every thing than moving on is a good idea. There is no point in noodling, taking a project from start to finish is also an equally important skill to master.

I’m finally ready for an update. It goes slower than i expected but it is progress nonetheless.

At this point i should say that its inspired by the character Abomination from Darkest Dungeon, but im not going for an exact copy. The character is under an old bridge and got stabbed(the little cylinder on his side is going to be the dagger), so i tried to give him an angry look but facial expressions were harder than i thought and im not sure if it looks angry.

What im not happy with is the chains, and of course the hands, i’ll probably change them but for now i think im ready for texturing. My main focus is the character, ill make the environment too but i wont spend too much time on that.

(I used low resolution for the clothes because my computer cant handle more than this, but ill bump up the resolution in the final render.)

(I havent modeled the teeth yet, for now i just used a couple of cylinders. Also i tried to give him a sick look on the side of his face.)

Slowly its coming to the end. It took an unexpected turn, at the beginning i had a very different idea, it was going to be a close up shot to the character but no matter how i tried it didnt feel right and character didnt look very good at close up. I ended up changing the whole scene but i think its nicer this way.
I probably went overboard with the fog but it sets a nice atmosphere i think but i still think that the scene feels a bit empty, im trying to find out how can i fill it. And i will probably change the sky image but it works for now.
