I have been using an RX580 for a while now without much issue, but recently I upgraded to an RTX3060 and the moment I installed the drivers and began using Blender again, I noticed it started crashing to desktop at random without really any indication as to why.
I have attached the logs generated by the gpu debug cmd launcher, these crashes occur when I’m in edit mode working on my model with the subdivision modifier active, would greatly appreciate any advice as it’s quite difficult to make any progress with constant crashing. This was never an issue with the RX580, which leads me to believe it’s a GPU-caused crash.
Make sure you unninstalled AMD driver and any software related. Check if Edit > Preferences > System is in CUDA/OptiX option, disable all aditional Blender addons. From your log there’s a RuntimeError with UV Packmaster3 addon, which is GPU accelerated.
Yeah I used DDU (in safe mode) to remove the old GPU drivers so that shouldn’t be an issue, currently using OptiX in System Settings.
However, I did not spot the Packmaster error, I’ll try disabling it and getting back to my model, if it crashes again I’ll test out with no addons (Sounds painful) and see if that stops my crashing issue. Thank you!
Update: Still got a crash with UV Packmaster disabled, will try without any addons now.
I have an RTX3060 and I get random crashes from time to time… mostly from a bad connection to some addon. Once I disable the addon, I can usually open the file and removed the offending addon then resave.
I have noticed that if some files do not close properly re-opening can cause crashes too. But again, I believe this is a lost connection to an addon as once disabled it will load.
Once reopened I can apply the addon again and it works. Kooky… but it does fix some things.
I’ve already tried playing with factory defaults (Which resets all settings and disables all addons) but maybe it deserves another shot, perhaps like you said, I’ll disable everything then save the file again to test things out.
Can you describe your process step-by-step? I tried disabling all add-ons but still getting crashes, not sure if I followed your instructions correctly or not.
Haven’t yet! I have 16gbs of RAM and apparently, some people online say that this value should be half your RAM, os I put 8192, going to give it a try and hope for the best.
I guess it all depends on what you are using. I have had issues with different add-ons for different reasons. I had a crash while using something with Blenderkit, I had to disable, restart Blender, and try to remove the offending item.
Recently, I have been having issues with renders. I have a very large scene so I keep it in model mode. I try to render an image and BOOM! Blender shuts down. Ok, I let all the textures load in low mode, try to reder the image. Again, Blender shuts down.
Ok, why? I finally figured out it was a camera conflict. I had the added camera from the menu, then I used an add-on that allows for more cameras and different shot set ups. After removing all the cameras then adding from the menu, I am able to render again. Well, I was able to get one render out… I have not tried another yet. LOL.
Things were fine rendering in previous versions of Blender. But if I read correctly, there have been changes in the rendering so maybe something needs to be reset on my end… IDK but I seem to have my render issue fixed even if just temporary.
You kinda have to do some detective work to know what the issues are. If you do not remove the offensive item, when you turn the add-ons back on you will still crash.
Just curious but did u ever get the crashing issue figured out? I’m having the same issues with the same exact prob went from a rx580 to a rtx 3060 uninstalled everything with ddu and everything else. it worked fine for 1 1/2 weeks and all started yesterday into today same thing random crashes out of no where.wasn’t modeling anything crazy low poly models, and even started a new model with low poly and a few animations same outcome.
I did figure out the cause. It was unrelated to my GPU, just unfortunate timing that, around the same time that I swapped to NVidia, one of my RAM sticks died out, it wasn’t exactly dead, just malfunctioning and causing all of the strang behaviours I was experiencing.
Replacing both sticks I had at the time fixed all of my issues.
Also, no test gave me any errors regarding my RAM, so don’t fully believe the results you get, try swapping out only one at a time if you have 2 or more.
