Hi I’m a noob at both blender and this forum.
This is my 3rd attempt at 350Z but I keep getting problems when I get to this stage.Tell me if you need more pics and how you would like them please
The problem is when you have to extrude the ages to make it look like metal. That stage is ok but as soon as I smooth I get wierd faces or bad reflections.I dont know if its my noob rendering or what
If someone has their successful 350Z wire and wouldnt mind posting it please do so thanks
Well, the weird faces you see are just a result of Blender trying to decide which way is which. To solve the issue of black faces when you smooth the image, select all vertices (use a) and hit ctrl+n and recalculate the normals. This should solve any problems, especially with mechanical sorts of modelling. In more complex shapes, sometimes recalculating the normals simply messes up somewhere else, and that’s a bit more difficult to fix.
For your purposes - Ctrl + N should do the trick.
There are a number of ways to show wires, your seems to be fine, the only issue lies in not being able to see the faces, which can sometimes be helpful. Printscreen works wonders in those situations, or there are more involved processes you can google, or search the forums.
The modelling looks pretty clean, just beware of any loops that don’t seem to make a difference, the more basic you can get the overall shape, the easier it will be to start adding detail precisely where you want it with more loop cuts (Ctrl + R). To delete an edge loop, simply select a loop (ctrl right click) -> “x” -> Delete edge loop.
If you aren’t working from a blueprint, you may want to try that, ensure you have consistent, accurate references.
Hopefully you won’t encounter any project-stopping errors this go-around, and even if you do, post it on the forum, likely someone will have a suggestion.
I do use ctrl + n before it does fix my problems but not this one.It might be because its in blenders window and I dont like the look of it.If you model cars this is what I mean. You have to extrude the edges a tiny bit to make the car look a bit realistic(or something)
How do you do the extruding properly.Because I think thats where I’m going wrong.
PS Thanks for that Ctrl + R I knew there was a shortcut like that but didnt know what it was
then the problem is clear.
Blender tries to smooth around the sharp edges of your model so you see those strange results. You should turn on autosmooth to get better results on rendering but it won’t change what you see in the 3d window. So turn it on and perform a render. If it looks good then you should work on and don’t care about what you see in the 3d window.
I always work on hard models because then I have the feeling of better control then. However - if anyone has a suggestion how to improve the 3d-window-look - I’d be lucky to hear about too.
This is the way the smooth works, no fault on your part. You can add some edge loops around the areas that give you problems.
The normal way to model cars (high poly ones) is to use subsurf.
You have to know how to model with subsurf, it’s not as simple as apply subsurf and you are done. You have to have edge loops at the sides of your mesh. It’s a bit more complicated but the results are extremely good. Just try subsurf and let us know the result.
Thanks guys.I think I see what you mean cipix,I quickly went to subsurf with smooth on and it looked ok.
The autosmooth didnt work so good…
I’ll try subsurf properly now…well what I think is properly
I’m just trying to see materials. The blue glass was something quick…so no crits on it
And on this render still haven’t updated I’m trying to work on subsurf like cipix said so here is my subsurf render.
So main crits on the car and material please
And if the material and subsurf are successful I’ll finally
I started a quick new mesh trying to work on my subsurf skills and lighting.
The mesh is a quick 710 vertex mesh that I started training subsurf on.Took me about 1 and a half hours makig the mesh and another hour trying different subsurfs etc.
The paint is just the normal blender clay red paint with some lamps and a plane at the bottom of it.
I wanted to show you this just to say I’ve finally managed that subsurf problem :):)
NOW I can keep doing my original model. But I’m a bit tired so updates some time tommorow if I get a chance.
Looking good. I’m surprised that you get the subsurf to work so fast.
Comments:
Don’t cut the doors yet. Just prepare the mesh for cutting (with an edge loop on the contour of the doors) and do the cutting only when you finish the tweaking of the car body.
Umm hey. That isnt my actual project (the one above) it was my 1st 350Z that I decided to train subsurf on.I’m getting the hang of subsurf so I’ll use it on the 350Z that I’m working on.
You get it?
I’m used to cutting first… but you’re a pro so I’ll follow your advice
Well all I can say is,I have modelled before when I did speeds porsche tut and I only got half of it done.I don’t know a lot of shortcuts and things like HDRI which I’m getting to know.
IMO I’m still a noob with noob work but whether you think I’m not is yours:D
Update - Doing body work.Need to work on front bumper and side skirt.Hood and rear bumper look ok.Need to start modelling details.Have some rims.
Learn how to make tires and brake discs.Anyone know how to make some or know some good tutorials please help.
