Boredom + Sunday = This. Took FOREVER. Think of it like a panoramic shot all mapped onto a sphere with the very middle as the ground under your feet and the outer edge the horizon. Rendered in the Blender internal (unfortunately, cycles won’t render hair particles :frowning: ) Let me know what you guys think  http://cgcnetwork.cgcookie.netdna-cdn.com/blender/files/2012/01/World_Marsh-956x537.png

There is a website of a photographer that has a lot of these little planets but I don’t remember the link.

yeah i saw one in Pop Photography, that’s what gave me the idea to do this.

I like the execution of this.

My critiques would be that the water looks a little too plasticy. If it was a little more transparent, and if it reflected a realistic sky instead of a plain white light.

It also looks like the dirt drops straight off into the water as though it were a cardboard cutout. Which gives it sort of a cartoony look, but maybe that’s what you were going for.

yeah i was actually going for a cartoony look, kinda like pixar’s. I was going to fix the dirt and selected everything i needed, and then Blender crashd so i decided not to worry about it. I think I’m going to try to work on the water today.

Here’s the revised water :slight_smile:http://cgcnetwork.cgcookie.netdna-cdn.com/blender/files/2012/01/World-Marsh-Improv-956x537.png

Nice image. Technically it is well done. But, I am craving for focal point. Is the image about looking through fish eye lens and the ground? What are you looking at? Put a colorful flog in middle. Can you see how whole meaning of image changes?

It’s kind of like this. http://www.flickr.com/photos/gadl/237122671/in/set-72157594279945875
maybe I’ll add some bright flowers or a clump of trees in the middle. Is that what you were thinking of?

Made a lot of changes, still thinking about a focal point. http://cgcnetwork.cgcookie.netdna-cdn.com/blender/files/2012/01/Marsh-956x537.png

A neat focal point would be a sign: Don’t Walk On The Grass!

But that’s just what popped into my head. =)

Very nice. =D

Dan

Yeah that would be pretty cool, but it would also be funny and surprising.

Funny and surprising isn’t bad, per se. But if you’re going for a more somber note, then yeah, it wouldn’t work out well. If you want to go more dark, you could put a single gravestone, maybe? It would seem poignant and touching in that case. Or maybe an old couple holding hands together as they walk?

There are so many things you could do. I can’t wait to see what you decide! =D

Dan

Very good, grass looks nice and soft i’m going to that planet

If there were a realistic sky that was warped around the sphere, it would look more like the camera panorama trick, as opposed to a tiny floating planet. Perhaps just some birds flying around to make it look like atmosphere instead of grey space.

Ok, so i decided to add a more emotional element to the scene in the form of the focal point. Let me know what you think :slight_smile:http://cgcnetwork.cgcookie.netdna-cdn.com/blender/files/2012/01/Resting-in-a-Peacful-Place1-956x537.png

I’m assuming that’s a cross, however it looks like it’s made of jello. If you used sss you need to adjust the scale setting.

I think I’m just going to keep it at the old one for now. I am having serious issues with the stupid cross at this point. Literally, I worked all day on it. But thanks for the tip

It’s a common problem and an easy fix. It’s because Blender uses a much larger standard scale than most people model at. I just start by setting the sss to the minimum scale (0.001) and then doubling it till I get what I want - 0.001 >.002 >.004 >.008 >.02 >.04 and so on. Then refine it once you get in the ballpark.

Just do quick test renders with the border select from the camera view (shift-b in camera view).

Cool! Thanks a ton! I had quite a lot of work invested in the cross so i don’t want to see it go to waste :stuck_out_tongue:

Fixed the cross. Also made the lighting a bit darker and not so glaring. http://cgcnetwork.cgcookie.netdna-cdn.com/blender/files/2012/01/Marsh-Grave-956x537.png
