3D landscaping software?

I was wondering if any of you know of a program, that can model and texture landscapes, with erosion tools and such? It should also have the ability to export the model to a file, that is compatible with Blender. Oh and it should preferably work on a mac as well.

Bryce is free but pretty outdated. Vue is very expensive, but much better.

And don’t forget about the affordable Terragen: http://planetside.co.uk

I can recommend world machine

for modelling only, there is lithosphere, http://lithosphere.codeflow.org , which is opensource; for mac, there is also ArtMatic Voyager, http://uisoftware.com/artmatic/

While I like lithosphere, I’d say it’s abandoned.
It’s in alpha state for 3 years now… :frowning:

I’m not sure if the Far Cry 2 or 3 games or the Crysis games would be able to exchange between Blender, but I know from experience that the Far Cry 2 map editor is impressive :stuck_out_tongue:

The Unreal Development Kit (which is free) has a terrain editor as well, and you should be able to simply import and export between there and Blender.

Not sure if you were looking for something like that or something more in-depth, but it’s a start.

until there is no opensource program which is doing better, It’s still worth mentioning.
