3d with live action

Do any of you have great tips of how to blender 3d with live footage without the 3d model looking like it’s floating? I’ve seen some great videos on you tube with people using blender and the image looks like it’s downright perfect. Please help.

either you can hand track (rotoscope) every frame (probably learn more about it this way)

or
you can download a program to do it for you :

free motion trackers (afaik) :
voodoo
Icarus

(non -free)
Syntheyes (10 month trial-get this if you’re looking for professional use / want to learn it  )

pf track, etc (commercial versions of Icarus)

and then you just get a importer script for blender

hope that helps

alright that’s good thanks, but what I meant was still images. like I I add a box in front of my picture, the rock seems like it’s in the air. It doesn’t really look like it’s touching ground.

I have the exact same problem. . What do you use to motion track?

not sure if these are what you’re looking for…

might be useful to add a ground plane, and textures n’ stuff… - for shadows

It’s best to line up your lights with the natural light of the scene. If the light is from the right, for example, then try to make it from the right too. Map anything that isn’t the object or its shadow to alpha, so you don’t get the blue box or something. Also, you could use an image manipulator like Photoshop or GIMP to try to put it together that way and then edit it more to more or less blend in with the photo. This is a really hard thing to accomplish, but with some patience and luck, it can be done.
