3DS Morpher Modifier in Blender?

I’m struggling to find the answer to this as all the information I can find is either unrelated or completely out of date…
Anyway… I watched a video which had someone making a cushion in Marvelous Designer and then they imported it into 3DS.
He then made a complex mesh pattern separately from the cushion he just made, and morphed the pattern onto the pillow.

(you might want to slow the video to half/quater speed as its quite fast)
Starts at 6:49, he has made a cushion and then makes a complex pattern and then morphs the pattern onto the cushion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pp4MFgVE1DE

he does the morph at 8.53

I’ve tried looking at the shape keys and “join as shapes” but that completely messes up and will only work if there are the exact same number of vertices, which is not going to be the case if i make a mesh that i want to sit over the top.

Is there anything else I can try?

Surface Deform modifier might work.

I’ve looked into this and it looks like you can pair two objects and if one moves the other follows, but i’m struggling to see how I can make the second mesh deform onto the first (cushion in this example)

if anyone else has the same issue please look at this video. there are some addons which do the job

cushion.blend (775.8 KB)

  • Project a lattice an the base mesh
  • Let the projected lattice deform the pattern

Hmm that would be one way to do it. But the meshes I am working with from Marvelous Designer are super complex meshes which don’t work well with shrink wrap modifiers

The video above is exactly the answer I needed
