Hope I’m making progress with my modeling…
Crits and comments welcomed…

where to find decent textures for this??
Hello there,
Firstly I must say that you have created a brilliant looking model, infact I would go so far as saying that it looks better than the one I made http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=200824&highlight=
Try CgTextures, you may find something of use there.
Also the handle on the gun just looks frickin awsome, would you mind showing a wireframe of it? any cut-down tips on how I could model something similar?
Well done
The gun looks good overall, but the frame looks too thin, which causes everything but the barrel and cylinder to look too thin as well.

Joe
@porkfist: the handle I simply extruded a mesh over top of a background image i found online. Then I subsurfaced it to smooth out the corners and made loop cuts where needed… I’ll post the wires… I’m interested in how you modeled the cylinder on your gun. I’ve had several failed attempts with adding low vert count circles, placing them and cutting out the mesh then joining to the circles as needed but it makes the mesh horrible and messes subsurf up.
@crash_AF: I’ve been working on that problem… I’ve made a little bit of progress with it, but I think it might be a little on the thing size… Also something looks terribly wrong with the lever(I believe is the correct name), but I will post a currect render
And please dont comment on the cylinder… I’m gonna have to remodel it.
Thanks for the feedback

Looks like you added the chamber holes
Thankyou for replying to my request on the quick explanation and wireframe
The general idea with the holes is to get all the circle edges to connect to one point on the mesh, if you get what i mean, that way you dont get random edges connecting all over the place which in return gives you the dreaded triangles that subsurf hates. Its fairly hard to explain but you already have the idea with the low poly circle cutouts, it’s just a matter of cleaning up the mesh after creating them.
If you are not happy with the chamber cylinder then let me know and I will pm you with the one I made for my model.
All I ask in return is a credit.
Regards,
Pork
Here,
See how the triangles are kept to a minimum.
Thanks for the tips… Helped me with getting it modeled… I need to change it a little bit… but I have all of the wholes modeled… After this I’ll have one more thing to worry about… Textures, which I seem a little clueless about right now… Probably because its my first time modeling something worth texturing

It’s looking better, but the cylinder holes are too small and it’s still too thin.
It decided to try modeling a revolver before I got too critical, so I knew what I was talking about… LOL See my new WIP thread.

This revolver is really starting to look good I agree with what the previous person said though, I know you have had a little trouble doing the holes but they do need to be a bit bigger. About the width… I dont think it looks that bad actually, maybe just widen the top rail?
Good work
(Edit)
You wouldnt mind posting the images and blueprints you used, I wouldnt mind giving this gun a shot.
I’ve made the holes bigger. Tell me if they arent big enough yet. I’ve also made the frame wider once again. And I can give you my reference image, but I googled images if i needed to see something, and after modeling I kind of think it was a picture of an airsoft gun

The cylinder holes should be the same diameter as the inside of the barrel since the bullet in the cylinder has to go down the barrel.
Here’s the wires of my cylinder, hope it helps. It’s probably not the best, but I’m still learning and it gets the job done.

okay so I hope this is it… I kind of want to move on from this and get into character animation/modeling and pixar type stuff…(know where I can find model sheets for pixar characters? ive tried google) and thanks for the help… Note: this should be spot on I moved each hole in front of the barrel and scaled them

That looks much better.
Now just get the frame wider and it should be darn near done.

Wow that really is starting to look fantastic! You pretty much have it nailed… except for one thing that keeps bugging me. The handle looks great and all, the shape is perfect and whatnot but by closely looking at the shading in the image it appears the handle should be slightly more rounded and not so squarish. The cause of this I think is the edge loops you have put down the middle of the handle. Not sure but you may also be able to extrude the inner are of the handle outwards to give it some depth.
For this handle all I did was create sections for the different areas on the handle then filled them in with faces. I then just scaled the parts of the handle that I wanted to be extruded outwards. Simple yet effective way of making a handle in my opinion. Only took me 5 minutes.
I hate to keep asking but in the name of learning would you be able to post a wireframe image of the main frame? If possible showing the wires in this format?
yeah I guess this is what you mean by the mainframe… as for the handle… I’ve handled the flat issure… but from what ive seen this specific handle is kind of flat

Hi again,
Here is a link to someone who made the exact same gun your making but in 3DS Max.
His render may be helpful as reference images.

You may see what I mean about the handle…
Yeah I know what you’re saying. Overall I had a good learning experience with this revolver. And now that I’m at this point I see that I basically would need to remodel it to add in details like it being able to release. So I’ve decided to move on to another project
