what about
select and delete the 4 interior faces in wire frame mode before applying the modifier
select the faces and then x faces only
my understanding is that when the mirror mod is applied with merge on, it merges the double verts which are created along the mirror lines. So after that there shouldn’t be any doubles left.
you shouldn’t need to remove the vertices which lie along the mirror lines …
but if you want to remove them:
box select them, g x to slide them towards the corner,
snap them to the matching verts at the start of the bolt flange
repeat with the verts in the centre of the vertical members using g z to slide and snap
then F3 remove doubles
That seems to work. Might be a bit of a pain if I was mirroring a more complicated shape, but then I guess usually with a mirrored image you’d only get one large face up the middle. I wonder why they removed the ‘remove doubles’ option
Yet another problem lol. The thing is… I haven’t done anything particularly difficult! The basic shape was done, all I did was use the bevel modifier to add a -very slight- curve to the edges. Literally one of the simplest most basic operations I could have done.
Somehow, it resulted in 16 intersect faces and 24 zero faces and 40 zero edges. I don’t think the zeros matter too much for printing, but the intersecting faces apparently -can- cause problems.
So… how do I not cause intersecting faces with the bevel tool? All I did was add a 1.5mm bevel to the corner edges.
