Hello all. Here’s something I’ve been working on. Finally, I’ve learned how to apply two materials to one object! Haha, I guess borrowing the Blender manuel from my friend was a good idea.
Anyways, I’m going to attempt an entire city. Opinions on approach? I was thinking I’d go for more generic building looks like the one here, then add details to each later. Or should I add details to each individual building as I make it?
The platform the building rests on is likely going to be removed. It was just a thing I had fun with, using the spin button. However, a chance says it might stay. I may make tall building structures like the ones found in the game Star Ocean, which has magnificant 3D art.
You can read it online too or print any part of it.
Read one of the sticky post at the beginning of the ‘Blender general’ forum to find out how.

You do a you feel but I’d make the first building with the most detail I intended to have in one : this way I’d learn how to design all my buildings in such a way that I’d be sure to be able to add detail at any time later if I’d feel like it needed it.

I’d love to live in a city where the buildings would leave the ground free but there would be terrible wind tunnel effects caused by such a design that pedestrian wouldn’t likely be able to stand up
Looking good at the moment, definitely reminds me of the buildings where you start the game in Star Ocean 3, which has amazing graphics. Needs to be in more of a scene, at the moment it’s just a bit ‘in your face’ close up of the building.
The lighting and specularity is very, very nice. In the first shot I didn’t like the way that the three separate pipes (nice idea) become one indistinguishable line once they get into the (too-total) shadow area. The lighting could be more imaginative but the modeling is quite good.
Just a quick update. New buildings and new texture added.
Sorry guys, no real scene yet. Mostly generic stuff, and it probably won’t get too detailed in the end anyways.
What I’m going for here is a futuristic industrial style. As some of you know, Solocreator has created some 3D art for my Project Aqua team. He seems to have the right idea in the style we’re going for, as seen in his circular lab and ship, modelled from our concept art.
I’ll be trying to learn more modelling techniques and shortcuts. Hmmm… how to make good grass and plants/trees…
The fiber script is useful for generating grass, while for trees you can either use blender’s Lsystem script, or arbaro, which is an external java program, which outputs the trees in .obj or .dxf both of which blender can import easily.
Another update. More doodads added to the tall building, and new building in progress off to the left side.
I’ll look into scripts and tutorials for grass sometime, though I’m not entirely sure how and where to use them quite yet. Think furturistic and technologically advanced.
As for the blender manual, seems I have 2.0, which is quite old. But hey, I still have some use for it.
Lighting, lighting… well I’m not quite going for a night scene yet, or not sure if ever. Flourecent lights, I have thought of that, but find not much use for it yet with the current building. I think I may add some little lights around the buildings for the heck of it sometime.
Okay then, new building added, will still need to add more detail to it, but its done for now while I start on another one. This took 2 minutes 23 seconds to render. It seems to me like the one in the middle is the only really decent one to this point. Well, I guess I’ll make one more building, then go back and work on the others to better detail.
EDIT: Another view added!
EDIT 2: Hmm… I wonder if there are any good textures I could use on these models… thinks Maybe I’ll go search up some tutorials or whatnot.
Okay, I’m starting to go for details. No texturing yet really, I haven’t practiced texturing yet and I’m not sure how to go about making good textures.
Okay then, more updates, this time on the tall skinny black building. I’ve added a logo like thing on it. I may have something on top of the circular area, not sure yet. Maybe neon lights? Whee. The buildings are really starting to take shape.
Okay, I started up on this again. This time, its a new building addition. Its going to be one gung-ho work, like Midgar’s Shin-ra building from FF7. I’m planning on putting bridges between the towers. I want to fill the bottom with things so its almost like you can’t see the floor… any suggestions?
Pixel i have a question, how is the entire city gonna be organized, is it going to be a single tier flat plane or is going to be like a layered city with different tiers and levels?
